12 month prescriptions

12 Month Prescriptions
As from 1st February 2026, some people with stable, long-term health conditions may be able to get prescriptions for some medications for up to 12 months.

Your doctor will work with you to decide if a 12-month prescription is safe and appropriate for you and your health needs. If you feel this may be an option for you then please make a face-to-face appointment with your doctor to discuss. This visit will be a 12-month prescription appointment and if you wish to discuss other things then please make a double appointment.

12-month prescriptions are more likely to be suitable for people with stable, long-term health conditions when the dose of medication is unlikely to change and you do not require regular monitoring with blood tests or blood pressure.

The rules for controlled drugs like strong pain relievers and ADHD medicines are not changing. ADHD medications will continue to be prescribed for 3 months with no more than 1 month dispensed by the pharmacy.

12 month prescriptions must be picked up from the same pharmacy. Please note if you need to change pharmacy's, lose your medications, or require an extra short supply until you can see your doctor for a face-to- face review, there will be an additional charge for this.

Please remember: Your health always comes first.

Full Body Health Check in NZ: What’s Included and Why They Matter

As we move into 2026, more New Zealanders are prioritising preventative healthcare—and for good reason. Modern lifestyles, increased workplace stress, and rising awareness around early disease detection have all contributed to a growing demand for the annual full body health check.

Whether you’re managing your personal wellbeing, meeting employer requirements, or planning ahead for long-term health, scheduling a yearly check-up is one of the smartest investments you can make. It provides a complete overview of your current health status and helps identify risks long before symptoms appear.

Why Annual Health Checks Matter More in 2026

In 2026, healthcare providers across NZ continue to emphasise prevention over reaction. Many chronic conditions—heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure—often develop slowly and silently. A yearly full body health check allows you to detect issues early, giving you the best chance to manage or reverse them.

Key advantages of annual checks include:

  • Early detection of hidden health problems
  • Tracking year-to-year changes in physiological parameters for health optimisation and disease preventions
  • Better understanding of your personal risk profile
  • Tailored advice to improve lifestyle and wellbeing
  • Peace of mind knowing your health is on track

For businesses, routine checks also support healthier, more productive teams and reduce preventable sick leave.

What’s Included in a Full Body Health Check in NZ

Clinics like CityMed in Auckland offer comprehensive health assessments designed to give a complete picture of your physical wellbeing. Here’s what typically comes with a modern full body health check in 2026:

1. Essential Physical Measurements

These core assessments help evaluate general health and identify early warning signs:

  • Height, weight, and BMI
  • Blood pressure and pulse
  • Vision testing
  • Urinalysis

These checks provide foundational information about cardiovascular, metabolic, and kidney health.

2. Detailed Blood Tests

Blood tests offer deep insight into your internal health. In 2026, standard panels often include:

  • Full blood count
  • Cholesterol and lipid profile
  • Liver and kidney function
  • HbA1c for blood sugar and diabetes risk
  • Iron studies (e.g., ferritin)
  • Thyroid testing
  • PSA screening for men

These results help your doctor identify risks, check organ function, and flag any areas needing follow-up.

3. GP Consultation and Personalised Review

A key part of the full body health check is a comprehensive consultation with a doctor. This includes:

  • Review of your medical and family history
  • Lifestyle and risk factor assessment
  • Discussion of mental wellbeing, stress, sleep, and nutrition
  • Recommendations for further tests or specialist referrals
  • A personalised plan for improving long-term health

This results-focused discussion ensures your health information is both meaningful and actionable.

4. Optional Add-Ons for Deeper Health Insight

Depending on age, symptoms, and risk profile, you may choose additional screenings such as:

  • ECG – heart rhythm and electrical activity
  • Audiometry – hearing test
  • Skin / mole examination
  • Cervical smear and breast exam for women
  • Prostate check for men
  • Referrals for mammograms or colonoscopies

These extras screening tests help to provide further detailed evaluation of risks for common cancers in NZ and cardiovascular issues aiming to manage health issues at their early stages.
