12 month prescriptions

12 Month Prescriptions
As from 1st February 2026, some people with stable, long-term health conditions may be able to get prescriptions for some medications for up to 12 months.

Your doctor will work with you to decide if a 12-month prescription is safe and appropriate for you and your health needs. If you feel this may be an option for you then please make a face-to-face appointment with your doctor to discuss. This visit will be a 12-month prescription appointment and if you wish to discuss other things then please make a double appointment.

12-month prescriptions are more likely to be suitable for people with stable, long-term health conditions when the dose of medication is unlikely to change and you do not require regular monitoring with blood tests or blood pressure.

The rules for controlled drugs like strong pain relievers and ADHD medicines are not changing. ADHD medications will continue to be prescribed for 3 months with no more than 1 month dispensed by the pharmacy.

12 month prescriptions must be picked up from the same pharmacy. Please note if you need to change pharmacy's, lose your medications, or require an extra short supply until you can see your doctor for a face-to- face review, there will be an additional charge for this.

Please remember: Your health always comes first.

Travel Vaccinations & Travel Medicine

  • International travel exposes you to diseases—such as Yellow Fever, Hepatitis, and Typhoid—that may not exist in New Zealand. Many destinations also require proof of certain vaccines for entry. Travel vaccinations reduce your risk of serious illness and help you meet these border-control requirements.

CityMed’s provides comprehensive travel vaccinations and personalized travel-health advice for travelers departing from New Zealand. Whether you are heading to Asia, Africa, the Americas or the Pacific, our experienced doctors ensure you receive the right vaccines and the latest medical guidance for a safe journey.

    Comprehensive Travel Vaccination Services

We offer a full range of pre- and post-travel vaccinations and travel-health consultations. Common vaccines include:

    • Yellow Fever
    • Hepatitis A & B
    • Typhoid
    • Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis (Tdap)
    • MMR booster (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis, and more depending on your destination

Our doctors assess your itinerary, health history, and travel dates to recommend the correct protection, including Yellow Fever certification where required.

    Personalized Travel Health Advice

Every journey is unique. During your consultation we provide:

    • Destination-specific health and safety advice
    • Guidance on the best insect repellents and mosquito-bite prevention
    • Recommendations for anti-malarial medication
    • Tips to minimize exposure to environmental hazards such as heat, altitude, or contaminated water

All recommendations are tailored to your personal health needs and travel plans.

    Booking Your Travel Vaccination Appointment

We recommend booking your appointment 4–6 weeks before travel, or as soon as possible if your trip is sooner. Appointments must be made through our reception team and cannot be booked online.

What to Expect on the Day

    • Travel Questionnaire: Patients normally receive a travel questionnaire on arrival. To save time, you can request a copy in advance by emailing reception@citymed.co.nz or calling 09 377 5525.
    • Appointment Length: Your consultation with the doctor will take about 30–45 minutes, followed by a 30-minute nurse appointment for the vaccinations.
    • Same-Day Service: Yellow Fever-certified doctors are available onsite five days a week, and vaccines are stocked onsite so most travel vaccinations can be administered on the same day without delay.

    Please bring:

    • A detailed itinerary of your travel plans
    • Records of previous travel or childhood immunizations (if available)
    • A list of current medications and any allergies
    • Your passport if you require a Yellow Fever vaccination
